Aug 28, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government today Saturday said a draft of the proposed constitutional amendments will be presented to parliament after the first week of September.

Chief Government Whip Minister Dinesh Gunawardena told the local media that the draft would be tabled early next month and that he has already informed government members to cancel all engagements in their respective districts and be present when Parliament meets next.

The next parliamentary sessions are scheduled for September 7.

The local media has already reported that the draft of the proposed amendments is to be presented to the Supreme Court for its recommendations.

The government now enjoys a comfortable two-thirds majority in parliament after the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) decided to support the constitutional amendments.
