Aug 26, Colombo: A Sri Lankan court on Wednesday has ordered the telecommunication regulatory authorities to ban over 100 adult websites following a police report that children and adolescent youths have become addicts to such sites, the government announced today.
The Colombo Juvenile Court yesterday has ordered the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (TRC) to ban 107 porn websites and local movies with adult content.
The court moved to ban these web sites reportedly featuring local men and women following a report filed by the Women and Children Unit of the Police.
The Government last year proposed a ban on all movies that are labeled as 'Adults only' and added that regulations on programmes and publications that include scenes of adult content should be toughened.
The TRC last year blocked 12 websites with adult content.
The Government also intends tor the advertisers to get approval of the Public Performance Board for advertisements on TV, radio and newspapers.
The government says such a decision was taken to stop advertisements created without any standards that are unhealthy for the society, especially for small children.
