Aug 25, Colombo: India's MDMK general secretary Vaiko has denied the statement made by former arms procurer of the terror outfit LTTE, Kumaran Pathamanathan, alias KP that he was against a ceasefire between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan forces.
The Indian daily The Hindu reported today that Vaiko has accused the former LTTE leader of betraying the cause of Tamil Eelam by joining the long list of those who had acted against the cause.
Describing KP's statement that Vaiko stood in the way of a ceasefire as a "blatant lie" the Indian politician has said that he and Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P. Nedumaran desperately wanted a ceasefire "somehow".
The MDMK leader has told The Hindu that he has never advised the slain LTTE leader Prabhakaran on any decisions regarding Sri Lanka and the LTTE leader took "appropriate decisions on issues at appropriate times."
According to Mr. Vaiko the late LTTE leader has never agreed to lay down arms and give up the Tamil Eelam. Under that situation why he would be advising Prabhakaran against a ceasefire, Vaiko has asked.
The MDMK secretary has accused the Indian government of supporting Sri Lanka militarily to crush the LTTE and abetting killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka.
"I have been telling for the past five years that it was the Indian government that was arming, planning, and conducting the war for the Sri Lankan government against the LTTE. The Congress-led government at Delhi had also extended a Rs.1000 crore interest-free loan for this purpose," he was quoted.
