Aug 24, Colombo: The main constituent party of Sri Lanka's ruling alliance, Sri Lanka Freedom Party is to mark its 59th anniversary on September 2nd, Minister Susil Premajayantha announced yesterday.

The celebrations will be held at the Temple Trees under the patronage of the party's leader, President Mahinda Rajapaksa with the participation of leaders at national, provincial, and regional levels.

Addressing a media briefing, the Minister said that this year's anniversary is being held at a time the party is especially strong in parliamentary, provincial council and local government levels.

Currently 85 percent of the representation in the provincial councils is being held by the members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, the Minister noted.

The SLFP was founded by the 4th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka S.W.R.D Bandaranaike in 1951.
