Aug 19, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government is to revamp the water supply and drainage system in parts of the capital Colombo at a cost of nearly 1.1 billion rupees with the financial support from the government of Japan.

The Cabinet Wednesday approved a proposal from the Minister of Water Supply and Drainage Dinesh Gunawardena to award the tender to supply necessary items required for the Rehabilitation of the Water Supply Distribution system in parts of the capital city for Rs.1.098 billion.

The Minister has tabled a proposal seeking the Cabinet approval to grant the tenders for the supply and laying of pipes in the Pettah, Hultsdrop and parts of Kotahena and Maradana in Colombo for the supply of water under Phase I of Kalu Ganga Water Supply Project.

The total cost of this activity will be met from loan funds provided by the Government of Japan, the Sri Lankan government said.
