May 31, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Navy under the direction of its Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe has decided to extend the routes of the canal boat service recently launched along the Wellawatte canal.
The Navy's decision to extend the routes has been based on the massive response received by the boat service. Members of the general public have reportedly said they found the Navy's service very convenient, safe, and time-saving.
Director General, Naval Operations, Rear Admiral Jayantha Perera had made a field visit on May 26 to the project expansion areas accompanied by senior naval officers of the Canal Boat Project.
Chairmen of the Central Environmental Authority and the Sri Lanka Land Reclamation and Development Corporation had accompanied the naval officers.
Both parties had reportedly held a field discussion focused on the speedy implementation of the expansion project.
