May 31, Colombo: The Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) has warned of a possible dengue epidemic in the next few weeks following the identification of 10 dengue patients during the last 10 days and 20 patients during the month of May in the City of Colombo.
CMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pradeep Kariyawasam has told the local media that an epidemic generally commenced about two weeks after floods.
Explaining that the authorities were keeping a close watch on the situation, Dr. Kariyawasam has said the CMC would commence inspection of households and other establishments after the IIFA Awards scheduled for next week.
"We were focusing our attention on Vesak and the film festival, but would begin preventive sessions as soon as these events are over," he has said.
