May 04, Colombo: The Leader of the Democratic People's Front Mano Ganeshan has accused the leadership of the main opposition United National Party (UNP) of discriminating against minorities.
Ganeshan who failed to win a seat at the April 8 general elections has criticized the UNP for not appointing a member from his party to the National List of MPs as the UNP had promised.
Democratic People's Front is a constituent party of the UNP led United National Front alliance. Sri Lanka Muslim Congress and SLFP - Mahajana Wing were the other parties in the opposition coalition.
Ganeshan has reportedly said that his party will never approve the practice of UNP leader Ranil Wickremasinghe taking decisions for his personal benefit. In the future the minority parties will not support the UNP, he predicted.
Meanwhile reports say controversy is brewing within the UNP over the appointment of chief organizer position. According to party sources some UNP parliamentarians are not happy with the appointment of John Amaratunga to the post. Lakshman Kiriella should be appointed instead, some MPs have reportedly demanded.
