* Sri Lanka opposition leader receives more proposals for party reforms
Tue, May 4, 2010, 08:41 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 04, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition United National Party leader Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday (03) received a set of proposals forwarded by the party's Kurunegala District parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara on party reforms.

The 'five-step strategy' handed by Jayasekara has proposed the strengthening of the party's second level leadership and that key appointments be made in the party with consensus of members by election.

Jayasekara has added that the party's provincial council and local government members should be empowered to reorganize the party at grassroots level and to take steps to increase the party's vote base.

Jayasekara's proposals are also to be taken up for discussion at the party's next Working Committee meeting on Wednesday (05) along with proposals presented by UNP Hambantota District parliamentarian Sajith Premadasa.
