General Fonseka informs court-martial judges of his inability to attend proceedings

May 03, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Leader of the Democratic National Alliance (DNA) and parliamentarian, former Army Commander General (Retired) Sarath Fonseka, has informed the panel of judges of the court-martial scheduled to be held tomorrow (4) that he would not be able to attend the proceedings.
One of General Fonseka's defence lawyers, Attorney Sunil Watagala has told the media that the General would not be able to attend the court-martial proceedings, as he had to attend parliamentary sessions on the 4th.
General Fonseka who is currently in military custody at the Navy Headquarters is facing two courts-martial.
The second court-martial convened on April 20 to hear the charges of violating military procurement procedures against the former military commander is scheduled to resume hearings tomorrow, May 4.
The first Court Martial for the General's alleged involvement in political activities while in active service will resume hearing on May 5.
