May 03, Colombo: Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday called on all the ministers in the previous Cabinet to immediately hand over the vehicles that they have failed to return after the announcement of the general election.
President Rajapaksa had made this statement during the ruling United People's Freedom Alliance parliamentary group meeting yesterday (02).
According to the President, there was a Minister who still has kept 35 vehicles while another had failed to return 14 vehicles used by him.
The President had ordered those ministers who have failed to return their official vehicles to hand them over as soon as possible and had warned of severe consequences if they failed to adhere to the order.
Several ministers of the current Cabinet have said they were unable to carry out their work due to the short fall in the number of vehicles in some ministries.
Some ministries have been compelled to hire vehicles due to the failure of the former ministers to return the official vehicles.
