* U.S. Embassy in Colombo to mark World Press Freedom Day
Sun, May 2, 2010, 01:29 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

May 02, Colombo: In honor of World Press Freedom Day that falls on May 03, the U.S. Embassy in Colombo will join the global community in paying solemn tribute to journalists who have lost their lives while practicing their craft.

The Embassy will hold two programs to mark the day. One program is to screen a series of films at the American Center on Tuesday evenings.

These films - including Network, Citizen Kane, All the President's Men, and Being There - all examine the role of and threats to journalism in contemporary society. These screenings will be introduced by a Public Affairs officer of the American Embassy and then followed by a discussion.

As the second program, the American Center has organized a free training workshop on newsroom management at the American Center auditorium on May 12 and 13 for editors and news managers.

Terry Anzur, renowned journalism coach and former nightly news presenter from Los Angeles will conduct the workshop. Ms. Anzur has conducted a one-day TV training workshop in Colombo last October.
