Mar 31, Colombo: Sri Lanka Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe yesterday (30) expressed concern over former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka's health, especially, since his body was weak after surviving the LTTE suicide bomb attack in 2006.
Wickremasinghe called on the government to send a medical team headed by detained General Fonseka's personal doctor and another medical officer nominated by the Director General of Health Services to examine him and provide required treatment.
"It is inhuman to treat a hero who faced such an attack in the manner he is being treated now," Wickremasinghe said in a statement.
The Opposition Leader also stressed the need for allowing General Fonseka's personal physician to see him in accordance with medical ethics.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's main opposition, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the media yesterday (30) that General Fonseka's health had declined according to sources close to his family.
"The government has denied it. However, General Fonseka has been examined by an army medical team. We want him to undergo a medical check up by a team of medical experts. General Fonseka has been advised to take medicine on a regular basis since the time he was injured in a bomb attack. His family doctor should also be permitted to examine him," Attanayake said.
