Mar 29, Colombo: The Sri Lanka Army today (29) said that medical officers who attended to former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka had maintained that his health condition has not deteriorated as alleged by his wife Anoma Fonseka and spokespersons from his political party, the Democratic National Alliance (DNA).
The Army said that on its part "it has provided the medical services to him on a regular basis and round the clock since he continues to remain under Army care. No such complaint of sickness has been made by General Fonseka to this date, nor has any observation to that effect been made by the Navy Medical Officer in attendance. In addition to the 24-hour medical services, the services of any medical specialist have also been made available to him as and when required."
The DNA yesterday alleged that the government was attempting to kill the detained General by allowing him to die of natural causes by not providing him medical treatment.
According to the Army, the General had received thorough medical attention from the Navy Medical Officer in his attendance and a medical specialist in Anoma's presence.
"The Army reiterates that it is prepared to provide him with the best medical care at all times," the Army said.
