Mon, Mar 29, 2010, 07:19 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 29, Colombo: Technical officers of Sri Lanka Railway announced that they would launch a continuous work-to-rule campaign from midnight today.

The trade union action is based on five demands. They include demands related to anomalies in grading of employees, recruitment problems and salary issues, the secretary of the Sri Lanka Railway Technical Trade Union B.S. Kamal Peiris said.

He said that around 5000 technical trade employees would take part in this trade union action. In addition other technical trade unions have proclaimed support to them, he said.

The trade union warned of delays and cancellation of some train journeys due to the work-to-rule campaign. However, a spokesman of the Sri Lanka Railway said that all arrangements are underway to maintain the services as usual.
