Mar 29, Colombo: Sri Lanka Foreign Ministry's inquiries in to the incident of a former Sri Lankan diplomat in Japan bringing home some valuable items belong to his landlord in Japan has been delayed.
Foreign Ministry sources said the inquiry is being delayed due to a request made by the former Minister Consul in the Sri Lankan Embassy in Japan, Thilak Attanayake for more time to respond to the allegations leveled against him.
Attanayake has allegedly brought with him several items from the residence he lived in Japan without the approval of the Japanese landlord.
The Japanese landlord had however informed the Sri Lankan Embassy that he was willing to arrive at an amicable settlement if Attanayake returned the items he had taken with him.
Attanayake had allegedly taken with him a cloak, a high pressure washer, and a painting without the approval of the landlord.
Foreign Ministry sources said the Ministry was unable to respond to the request until it heard Attanayake's explanation.
