Over 45,000 IDPs to vote at general elections in Sri Lanka

Mar 28, Colombo: Sri Lanka Elections Department is to make the necessary arrangements for 45,969 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to cast their votes at the April 8 general election.
According to the Department, about 50,000 IDPs had applied to vote at the polling stations where they live. However, 4,031 applications were rejected and 15,887 IDP voters are from the Wanni electoral district.
The Elections Department has advised eligible IDP voters to produce their identity cards at the polling station.
Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government had said yesterday (27) that over 190,000 IDPs had been re-settled and only 76,205 remained.
