* Jaffna University in Northern Sri Lanka holds first post-war convocation after three years

Mar 26, Jaffna: The Jaffna University in Northern Sri Lanka held its first post-war graduation ceremony on Friday (26) after a lapse of three years.

The Over 3,000 students are to receive their degrees at the convocation that will be continued for the next two days.

The convocation ceremony, presided by the Chancellor of Jaffna University, Prof. M. Sivasuriya will confer degrees on 3,972 graduating students. Post Graduate degrees will also be conferred simultaneously.

The University did not hold a convocation ceremony for the past three years as the war escalated in the rest of the Northern region where some students of the University were stranded.

The Jaffna University, established in 1974 mainly to provide the opportunities for the minority Tamil students, today has eight faculties with fifty seven academic departments.
