11th IIFA awards to be held in Sri Lanka

Mar 26, Colombo: Bollywood's academy awards show this year, the 11th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards is to be held in the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo from June 2-4, tourism officials said.
The IIFA will hold several activities in the city during the IIFA Weekend including an international fashion show, film festivals, gala celebrity events, business conferences, and the main event, the award ceremony which will be held at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo.
In addition a Twenty20 cricket match between the Bollywood stars and Asian cricketers will also be played during the three-day event.
Each year the IIFA holds its awards festival at an exotic locale. Last year it held the gal event in Venetian-Macao. Sri Lanka has been chosen from among countries such as South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Australia, and South Korea, the organizers said.
According to the organizers, the event will draw fans from all over the world.
"This is a very rare and wonderful opportunity for Sri Lanka. Thanks to the prevailing peace, Sri Lanka has received international recognition," Sri Lanka's Minister of Tourism Achala Jaagoda said.
