Mar 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition UNP has appointed a three-member disciplinary committee to probe the allegation that the party's nomination papers for the Moneragala District had been forged.
UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake issuing a statement said the party's Working Committee had appointed a disciplinary committee consisting of Dulinda Weerasuriya, Justin Meegoda and Dinesh Widanapathirana.
The statement further noted that Attanayake had also lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) regarding the alleged forgery.
The controversy arose when the party's district leader for Moneragala submitted a forged nomination list where the name of SLFP (M) wing member Tissa Kuttiarachchi's has been removed. Kuttiarachchi’s name in the UNF nomination list had been deleted and another name has been included using a forged signature.
