Mar 26, Colombo: Sri Lanka Chief Justice Asoka de Silva ordered the Inspector General of Police to provide at least two police officers to provide security to the opposition parliamentarians.
The Justice ordered the police to provide 24-hour security to the MPs when the fundamental right petition filed by 18 opposition MPs was heard at the Supreme Court today.
The MPs filed the petition seeking protection after the police withdrew their security following the dissolution of the parliament. When the parliament was dissolved in February, the Police Department terminated the security given to the parliament members as they were no longer eligible for the privilege.
