Mar 26, Colombo: The Tamil Nadu police had reportedly arrested 23 Sri Lankan Tamil refugees while allegedly trying to flee to Sri Lanka yesterday (25).

Indian police sources have been quoted in the Indian media that some fishermen in a mechanized boat had spotted the stranded Sri Lankan Tamil refugees in mid sea as the boat carrying the refugees had developed a technical snag.

The fishermen had alerted the police and the refugees had been brought to the shore along with the boat and later detained at the South Indian Nithravilai police station.

Initial investigations carried out by the Indian police have revealed that a sum of Indian Rs. 5,000 was collected from these refugees to drop them at Sri Lanka border. Meanwhile, one person was reported missing from the boat.
