Sri Lanka's nationalist JHU and affiliated monks front deny involvement in Sirasa attack

Mar 25, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Buddhist nationalist party Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and its affiliate, the today (25) denied any involvement in the attack on Sirasa media network.
JHU Spokesperson Nishantha Sri Warnasinghe told the media that the party condemned the attack on the media institution. He also observed that state ministries and institutions needed to be more careful when organizing events.
A monk representative of the National Sangha Council also denied any involvement in the attack saying some individuals tried to blame the monks' organization for the attack.
He further observed that neither monks nor lay members of the council were present at the scene of the attack.
"We learn that there were certain Pradeshiya Sabha (local government) members involved in the attack. The National Sangha Council does not have any members in the local government bodies," the monk said.
The Director General of the Media Center for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle said at a media briefing yesterday that the National Sangha Council has accepted responsibility for the protest held against MTV station.
