Mar 25, Colombo: As postal voting of the general election is underway today and tomorrow in Sri Lanka, the Retaining Officer of Matale district postponed voting at the Vilgamuwa postal vote polling center due to irregularities.
The District Secretary and Returning Officer of Matale Gamini Samaranayake said that the voting of the Vilgamuwa polling center will be held on March 30.
The reason for the postponement was the inefficiency of the relevant Senior Polling Officer. The official had not attended the due training classes and had used a wrong polling list, sources said. The official has not informed the party representatives as well.
A total of 416,852 voters are eligible for postal voting at the general election. Election monitors said that 65% of them had casted their vote during the first day of polling. Several incidents of violation of election laws have been monitored, the election monitors say.
