Mar 25, Colombo: The United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's Chef de Cabinet Vijay Nambiar and Sri Lanka' Permanent Representative to the UN Dr. Palitha Kohona are working on the composition of the panel on accountability of war crimes in Sri Lanka, the UN Chief said on Wednesday.
Responding to a media query during the press encounter, the Secretary-General said that he is now in the process of identifying persons for the panel of experts. His envoy, Lynn Pascoe, will visit Sri Lanka in the near future to discuss the matters with the Sri Lankan government, he said.
"Iím in the process of identifying persons who can work in the panel of experts. My chef de cabinet has been meeting with the Sri Lankan ambassador here and they are now in the process of making a move on this, and I expect that Lynn Pascoe will be able to visit Sri Lanka in the near future to discuss all the matters," the Secretary-General responded.
Sri Lanka has vehemently objected to setting up an expert panel to advise the UN Secretary-General on the accountability issues saying that such apnel would infringe on the sovereignty of the country.
