Mar 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition coalition, the UNF, has said it would form the next government even with a majority of one seat in the legislature after the April 8 general election.
UNF Co-chairman and SLFP (M) Wing Leader Mangala Samaraweera addressing a gathering at the opening of the UNF office in Devinuwara, Matara yesterday (21) said, "The people in the villages are ready to defeat the current undemocratic government."
He accused President Mahinda Rajapaksa of stealing votes of the masses at the Presidential election and said he would definitely be defeated at the April 8 general election.
"I am contesting the election this time under the Elephant symbol. However, I would never betray the SLFP. I will get the support of members of the UNP as well as the SLFP," Samaraweera said.
