Election Commissioner meets party secretaries and police on Sri Lanka's upcoming election

Mar 19, Colombo: Sri Lanka's Election Commissioner Dayananda Dishanayake Friday met with the general secretaries of all the political parties contesting at the forthcoming parliamentary election at the Election Secretariat.
Only the general secretaries of the political parties were allowed to participate in today's meeting. Officials of the Police election police, the IGP and representatives of monitoring groups also participated.
This is the second time commissioner met the party representatives regarding the election.
During the meeting political party representatives have reportedly criticized the police for failing to remove all unlawful political displays including cut-outs, posters, and banners.
The IGP has informed the Election Commissioner that the police are facing a daunting task removing such displays due to pressure by the candidates.
Police so far had removed 112 kilos of political flags, 28,390 posters, 11,092 banners and another 1665 posters pasted on vehicles, the IGP informed.
