Mar 18, Colombo: The Sri Lanka government today accused the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) of leaking former Army Commander Retired General Sarath Fonseka's letter to Britain's Channel 4 from the Sri Lanka Navy Headquarters where he is currently being held.
Government Spokesperson Minister Dullas Alahapperuma told the media that the letter and the interview given by General Fonseka to the Channel 4 were false and were part of an operation launched by the JVP.
General Fonseka in his letter to Channel 4 claimed the charges faced by him in military court were false.
"He is jealous of me as I got more votes than him although he rigged he knows that I can challenge him [sic]," the general wrote, adding that he believed he was being held illegally and that his life remains at risk.
"But I will never give up exposing rogue president for sake of country," he told Channel 4.
