* Over 400,000 postal vote applications for Sri Lanka General Election

Mar 15, Colombo: The Election Secretariat had received 477,110 applications for postal voting at the upcoming General Election in Sri Lanka election officials reported.

Out of the total, 415,432 applicants will be eligible for postal voting. The Elections Secretariat said 61,678 applications had been rejected as the forms had not been correctly filled or had not met the required criteria.

According to the election officials, the number of postal voters has increased by 14,414. Only 401,018 were eligible for postal voting at the Presidential election in January.

The Elections Secretariat will deploy 300,000 public sector employees for election duty, 50,000 more than the number utilized for poll duties during the presidential election.
