Sun, Mar 14, 2010, 09:15 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 14, Colombo: People's Action For Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL), an election watchdog in Sri Lanka says that foreign monitors will arrive in the country before the first of April to monitor the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The poll monitoring organization has invited 50,000 international monitors representing the Association of Asian Election Monitors, PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi said.

The international monitors will be watching the polling centers island wide to ensure a free and fair election, he added.

PAFFREL is also planning to deploy local monitors and the group is in the process of finalizing the arrangements, Hettiarachchi said.

The election watchdog is one of the election monitoring groups accredited by Sri Lanka Election Commissioner.
