Revenues of Sri Lanka Railways up for 2009

Mar 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Railways revenues have risen last year earning over four billion rupees, Railways Commercial Superintendent Wijaya Samarasinghe said.
Last year's revenues were 74 million rupees above the target of 3.946 billion rupees set for the year, Mr. Samarasinghe said. The Department earned 4.020 billion in the last year, a 10 percent increase from year before, he said.
According to the Railways official, the Railways earned 3.671 billion rupees in 2008. The Railways has earned extra income by leasing railway land and property and also from rentals.
The Department targets to earn an income of five billion rupees this year.
