Mar 13, Colombo: Sri Lanka Naval troops attached to the Point Pedro Naval Detachment in the Northern Naval Area recovered a haul of C 4 explosives and suicide jackets concealed in the bottom of a dinghy on Thursday, the Navy reported.
The naval troops searched the Fiber Glass Dinghy which has been used by the displaced civilians to come to controlled areas during humanitarian operations as it seemed heavier than usual and roused suspicions.
Upon search the troops found 14 packets of 3 kg each C4 explosives, 5 complete suicide jackets, and accessories for explosive devices hidden in the boat's false double bottom.
The recovery was made as a result of the continuous checks conducted by naval troops on FGDs used by the IDPs.
Meanwhile, the army troops conducting search in the general areas of Visuwamadukulam and Vellamullivaikkal recovered one hundred and fifty rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, six detonators, one suicide jacket and four hand grenades on Friday (12).
