President requests Sri Lanka work force to lend maximum support for a stable government

Mar 12, Colombo: President Mahinda Rajapaksa requested the working community of Sri Lanka to lend maximum support at the upcoming general elections in April to form a stable parliament in order to accelerate the development in the country.
Addressing a conference held at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo today to raise awareness amongst Trade Unions about the future development plans of the Mahinda Chinthana concept, the President said his government has always placed confidence in the working community.
President Rajapaksa noting the contribution from the country's workforce to the development programs in the country said that his Mahinda Chinthana policy manifesto has introduced a programme to develop the country as a unique entity covering all the challenges that could be encountered in the future.
At the conference, the President felicitated family members of four Trade Union leaders, who sacrificed their lives for labor rights with cash awards.
Secretary to the President Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary to the Finance Ministry Dr. P.B. Jayasundara, Governor of the Central Bank Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Governor of the Western Province Alavi Moulana, also addressed the conference.
More than 5,000 people including ministers, former parliamentarians and Trade Union leaders attended the conference.
