Sri Lanka minister slams UN General Secretary for violation of mandate
Speaking to media at the cabinet press briefing held on March 10, the veteran law professor said that the UN Chief's action is against the foundation literature of the United Nations.
The Minister pointed out that this move is wrong in all points of views and the President Mahinda Rajapaksa had vehemently protested it. Prof. Peiris said that the UN Human Rights Council lengthily discussed the allegations on violation of human rights by Sri Lanka and they were rejected by a majority vote.
The Minister said that Sri Lanka could not be ruled according to the needs of several powerful nations that rely on short term political objectives.
The Minister pointed out that similar moves were underway during the presidential elections as well and it is suspected that this can be an unfair interference into the internal affairs of the nation with a need to change the government.
