Mar 10, Colombo: Sri Lanka ruling United People's Freedom Alliance (UPFA) is to begin its propaganda campaign for the upcoming general elections nest week, the secretary of its main constituent party informed.
General Secretary of Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), Minister Maithripala Sirisena addressing a media briefing in Colombo today said the Alliance plans to conduct meetings throughout the country under the leadership of the President as well as of the Prime Minister.
The Minister expressed confidence that the ruling party will receive a two-third majority at the upcoming general elections to be held on April 8.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's pledge to turn Sri Lanka in to the wonder of Asia can only be achieved through a strong parliament, the Minister pointed out. The government is seeking a two-third majority to also bring the much needed constitutional reforms and change the present electoral system.
The opposition parties have already been fallen to the level of political bankruptcy due to lack of public support, lack of proper organizational ability and mechanism and under such circumstances it will not be difficult for the UPFA to secure a landslide victory, the Minister elaborated.
