Respondents of Sri Lanka presidential election petition ordered to name lawyers

Mar 09, Colombo: Sri Lanka Supreme Court Tuesday (09) directed the respondents of the petition, filed by defeated presidential candidate General Sarath Fonseka, seeking the annulment of the presidential election results, to name their lawyers for the case.
The Supreme Court has informed all the respondents of the petition including President Mahinda Rajapaksa of the directive.
The Chief Justice will notify a date for the petition to be heard after the process of appointing lawyers is completed, the registrar of the Supreme Court said.
General Fonseka who lost to the incumbent President with a wide margin of 18 percent has refused to accept the election results claiming that the results were manipulated and there were election malpractices.
