Mar 09, Colombo: Former Army Commander, Retired General Sarath Fonseka has reportedly suspended the fast unto death as he was allowed by the military to speak to his daughters through his wife, Anoma Fonseka's mobile phone.
Anoma has told the media that the military had contacted her late last evening, asking her to visit her husband immediately with her mobile phone as he had been granted permission to speak to his children through her number.
"I went to see my husband at around 11 in the night after the military called me. He spoke to his daughter's through my mobile phone and now he is a bit relieved," Anoma has been quoted in the media.
Military Spokesperson Major General Prasad Samarasinghe yesterday said that General Fonseka had been granted permission to speak to his two daughters over a phone provided by the military.
General Fonseka was arrested last month for violating the Military Act and since being detained at the Navy Headquarters in Colombo. The Army is in the process of appointing a military tribunal on more than five counts of charges against him.
