Mar 07, Colombo: The visiting Indian Foreign Secretary Ms. Nirupama Rao has extended an invitation for Sri Lanka President Mahinda Rajapaksa to visit India, president's office said.

During a meeting at Janadhipathi Mandiraya with the President on Sunday (07) Ms. Rao has said that the Indian Prime Minister looked forward to an early visit by President Rajapaksa to India.

The Foreign Secretary has noted that the victory of the President gave much cause for confidence and hope for bi-lateral relations between India and Sri Lanka in the future.

The former Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Ms. Rao, is the first senior Indian official to visit Sri Lanka since President Rajapaksa's re-election for a second term in January.
