More displaced persons to vote at Sri Lanka general election

Mar 06, Colombo: The number of displaced persons applied for Sri Lanka's upcoming parliamentary elections has increased, the Election Secretariat said.
The Election Secretariat said that 50,000 people have sent in applications that have been certified by the Grama Seva Officers and the processing is currently underway.
Election officials said compared to the past president elections, 5,000 more displaced persons from the Northern region have applied for voting at polling booths other than their respective booths.
Meanwhile, Commissioner General for Registration of Persons A.G. Dharmadasa said that temporary identity cards will not be issued for the forthcoming General Election.
The issued temporary identity cards issued for the persons who did not posses IDs including the National Identity Cards during the Presidential Election are valid for the General Election as well, the Commissioner General said.
