Mar 04, Colombo: A senior government minister said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa would be sworn in to office for the second term on November 18.

Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris told the media today at a press conference that the swearing in for the second term would take place on November 18 and by then, the government would ensure that the necessary legal background for the implementation of the Mahinda Chinthana development programme would be in place.

He explained that the period after the general election and mid November would be used to prepare the necessary background and institutional requirements for the country's economic development.

"The government believes that the necessary groundwork should be ready by the time the President assumed office for the second term," the Minister said.
