Mar 04, Colombo: All former members of Sri Lanka parliament will be entitled to receive the perks and privileges enjoyed by them before the dissolution of parliament last month when the legislature reconvenes on the 9th.
The sixth parliament, which was dissolved last month, will reconvene on the 9th to extend the Emergency Regulations and would be in session until the conclusion of the April 8 general election.
Parliament has already received a copy of the gazette proclamation President issued extending the Emergency regulations.
According to the Constitution, a proclamation issued by the President after the dissolution of parliament, shall operate as a summoning of Parliament to meet on the 10th day after such proclamation.
Deputy Secretary General of parliament, D. Dassanayake says that once reconvened, parliament would be in session until the conclusion of the general election or the expiration of the proclamation, which ever happens first.
Former parliamentarian and President's Counsel Wijedasa Rajapaksa says that since parliament would be in session until the conclusion of the election, all parliamentarians of the sixth parliament would contest the election as sitting members.
