Wed, Mar 3, 2010, 11:37 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.
Mar 03, Colombo: The Colombo Fort Magistrate and Additional District Judge Ms. Lanka Jayaratne rejected bail today to Wellington Dehoedt, the director of Hicorp (Pvt) Limited, who had been remanded in connection with an alleged arms deal.
The judged ordered to further remand the suspect since the case required investigations both in Sri Lanka and the U.S., granting bail would hinder the investigations.
Dehoedt was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Division (CID) on January 7, 2010 for his alleged involvement in defrauding the government by presenting forged documents to the Sri Lanka Army, while the company was supplying equipment.
Hicorp is a company owned by Danuna Tilakaratne, the son-in-law of defeated presidential candidate and former Chief of Defence Staff General (retd) Sarath Fonseka.
Danuna Tilakaratne, meanwhile, remains at-large and his whereabouts are currently unknown.
