Sri Lanka Air Force celebrates 59th anniversary

Mar 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) celebrated its 59th anniversary today at the Air Force Head Quarters in Colombo.
Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Chief Marshall Roshan Goonetileke, Board of Directors, Officers and other ranks participated in the event.
Simultaneously the Air Force day was celebrated at each Air Base, Station, and Unit, island wide.
Several special community service projects, including blood donation camps, medical camps and other voluntary work had been conducted parallel to the functions by the respective Air Bases Stations and Units.
The SLAF which had its origins as the Royal Ceylon Air Force (RCyAF) was established on 2nd March 1951.
The Sri Lankan Air Force rendered an invaluable service during the war against the LTTE providing air cover to the ground troops and destroying LTTE strongholds and their military machinery.
