Teacher trainees in Sri Lanka steal exam papers

Mar 02, Colombo: Sri Lanka police arrested 33 students of Uva College of Education in suspicion of the theft of examination papers.
Police media spokesman Superintendent of Police Prishantha Jayakody said the students who are training to qualify as teachers will be produced in the Court.
The Department of Examination had to postpone the five-day final examination of the Colleges of Education that were to be held since yesterday.
An unknown person or a group stole one examination paper each from all sets of question papers that were stored in Uva College of Education in Bandarawela. The arrested students were residing in the hostel of the College.
A team of officials of the Examination Department arrived in Bandarawela for investigations on the theft.
Three thousand students that were to sit for the examination were inconvenienced by the incident. The authorities will have to spend extra funds to hold the examination again.
