Tue, Mar 2, 2010, 12:35 am SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Mar 01, Colombo: Sri Lanka's main opposition alliance, United National Front will release its election manifesto by the middle of this month, the General Secretary of the alliance's main constituent United National Party, Tissa Attanayake said today.

The main aims and objectives of the manifesto are to bring down the cost of living, improve living standards of the people, and introduce good governance and to strike at the very roots of corruption in the country, Attanayake revealed.

The party secretary said the UNP plans to intensify its election campaign after March 15, The party will be focusing more on pocket meetings at village levels than on major rallies, he added.

Meanwhile, the UNF, admitting that some errors had been made in their nominations of candidates to contest the April 8th general elections due to some 'internal misunderstandings', said they have given more opportunities to the Tamils than other major political parties.

The Tamil National action group has welcomed the UNP's selection of Tamil candidates, the party said.
