Mar 01, Colombo: The domestic gas prices will not be raised now and remain the same for the next two months, Minister of Trade and Consumer Affairs Bandula Gunawardena announced at a media briefing today.
The Minister said the Consumer Affairs Authority reviewed the requests by the gas companies to raise the price of a 12.5 kg gas cylinder and agreed that the request was reasonable considering the rise in global market.
However, President Mahinda Rajapaksa as the Finance and Planning Minister has taken a decision to eliminate the import tax on gas and issued a gazette notification effective from midnight today in order to provide relief to the public ahead of the approaching Sinhala and Hindu New Year in April.
The price of a 12.5 kg Shell gas cylinder will remain at Rs. 1,550 while Laugfs cylinder will remain at Rs. 1,481.
