* Independence Day celebrations to be held in Sri Lanka hill capital

Jan 30, Colombo: Sri Lanka is to hold this year's Independence Day celebrations on a grand scale in the hill capital of Kandy under the patronage of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

The 62nd Independence Day celebrations extravaganza will be held on February 4th at the Maha Maluwa of the most sacred Sri Dalada Maligawa.

The event is of special significance this year as it is the first independence celebration held after defeating the war and uniting the country. The celebrations are to begin with religious ceremonies of all faiths.

President Rajapaksa will also open the fourth Deyata Kirula exhibition that will be held to coincide with the Independence Day at the Pallekelle International Buddhist Research centre premises in Kandy on February 4 at 4 p.m. The exhibition will be open to public through February 10.
