Jan 30, Colombo: The United Nations Secretary-general Ban Ki-moon once again appealed to Sri Lanka's political parties to exercise restraint and abide by the laws of the land.
At the media briefing on Friday responding to media inquiries on reports of tensions in Sri Lanka following the Tuesday elections, the Associate spokesperson for the Secretary-General Farhan Haqm, said the UN Chief was aware of developments on the ground.
"The Secretary-General once again appeals for parties to abide by the laws and rules and procedures, including in addressing any electoral grievances," the spokesman said.
"The Secretary-General truly hopes that all sides would see the wisdom of acting with restraint and responsibility in the interest of the nation. This would bode well for future elections and national harmony, Haq added.
The Secretary-General earlier expressed his relief on the relatively peaceful conclusion to Sri Lanka's first post-war national election.
