Fri, Jan 29, 2010, 09:07 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.

Jan 29, Colombo: The Sri Lankan government has revoked the visa of a Swiss radio correspondent based in New Delhi, India and ordered her to leave the country by February 1, Swiss Broadcasting Corporation (SBC) reported.

Karin Wenger who has been in Sri Lanka to cover the presidential elections has said that immigration service had cancelled her accreditation, which was originally valid until February 17.

According to a spokesman for the radio said no reasons had been given for the expulsion but Wenger told the AFP news agency that she believes she is being expelled for asking inconvenient questions during a government press conference.

The SBC said a government minister had publicly criticized her for asking about irregularities in the election.

The international and local election monitoring groups have concluded that the election was free and fair and there were no irregularities in the election process.

The opposition candidate who lost the Tuesday's presidential election by a wide margin has alleged that vote rigging has cost him his victory.
