Jan 29, Colombo: The Criminal Investigations Department of Sri Lanka has taken in the Chief Editor of the 'Lanka' newspaper Chandana Sirimalwatte today for questioning.

Lanka is a newspaper controlled by the Marxist party Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.

The CID is to question the editor regarding an article published on last Wednesday about a property which the newspaper had claimed belonged to a senior government official.

The government has taken measures to crackdown on false reporting and spreading of malicious rumors by opposition supporters against the government and its officials.

The defence authorities arrested three people yesterday for spreading malicious rumors against the government and the President through the mobile Short Message Service (SMS),
